METHOD OF ELECTRIC EXPLOSION OF WIRE IN GAS (EEW)

ADVANCED POWDER TECHNOLOGIES LLC manufactures metal nanopowders by the electric explosion of wire (EEW) method.

This method is one of the perspective methods for production of a wide range of nanopowders of inorganic materials with high chemical activity. The method is based on impact acceleration processes.

In consequence of extreme conditions of electroexplosive nanoparticles formation (high temperatures and process velocity), unbalanced structure of nanoparticles’ dispersed phase is formed during conductor electric burst.

In order to transfer metal surface to the nonreactive condition, a process of nanoprticles’ passivation is carried out. This allows to protect metal nanoparticles from corrosion.

All technological process is going without usage of harmful chemical substances, in closed content, that’s why the delivery of inert gas comes to minimal level during production.

Major advantages of electric explosion of wire technology over other physical methods of nanopowder production:

1. High level of efficiency in energy transmission, which attains 90%. In the course of conductor electric burst technology, energy is introduced impulsively to the metal content directly; herewith energy consumption for heating of environment is relatively low.
2. Possible flexible regulation of process variables and characteristics of produced nanopowders.
3. Relatively small particle dispersion by size in comparison with other physical methods.
4. From one hand – relative stability of properties of electroexplosive nanopowders in normal conditions, from another – high efficiency in different chemical processes.
5. Method’s omnitude. The only one restriction of conductor electric burst technology is the usage of conductive material of a necessary size. The method allows to produce a wide range of nanosized materials.
6. Modest price of equipment, its simplicity, small mass and dimensions parameters.
